Hello readers.. Welcome t0 2012.

I have not updated my blog for quite sometime. Reasons behind : new job, no maid, house chores, etc. Well, hope I can spare time to update my blog, upload photo probably.

PAPA

When your son and I finally tied the knot, you accepted me for who I am. And for that, I thanked you. Though you and your wife were already living separate lives then, both of you welcomed me in the family. Whatever happened between the two of you, is really non of my business.

Anyway, PAPA, I don't know you that well, but I know you loved your sons. Though the other two isolated you, you always tried to keep them near by sending them text messages; whether they had replied or not, again I wouldn't know. Sadly, your eldest had left before you.

PAPA, we were all shocked by your death. At first, I thought R was pulling my legs. But when I read all the text messages he received, it was positive, you're dead. Being dead is one thing. But how you died, was really pitiful. We were investigating how you died and logically, we confirmed that you died of internal haemorrhage, on the night of 10 July 2011.

PAPA, why did you not want to be taken care of? Why did you prefer to stay alone in that house? To make matter worse, you were diabetic; you needed help.

Anyway, we were glad to have met you last August 2010, although it was just for a few hours.
We would always make it a point to visit you every time we were in town. Now that you're gone, we may not go to the province anymore.

PAPA, you are gone now. What's left behind are memories. The house will be taken over by your wife, and the apartment in the city will be taken over by your son. R has nothing at the moment as he believed that as long as your wife is still alive, she deserves to receive whatever income she can get from the property you had left.

May you rest in peace..

Today, Brunei LNG / Refinery held an awarding ceremony to recognise students who had done very well in the public examinations and well as year end examination in their respective schools. This year, for the second time, the award covers students from all over Belait District.

Awards were given out to 5A students in the 2010 PSR Exam, BGCE 'O" and 'A' Levels and SSSRU Exam. Also included in the list of awardees were best teachers who have performed well in their respective subjects which corresponded to the exam results, for Mathematics, English, Bahasa Melayu, Biology and Ugama.

These are what each PSR students received, aside from a $200 saving account and a certificate from BLNG.

Congratulations to all the students who did well last year. May you continue your journey into a brighter future...

The second monthly HLP was held in Bukit Shahbandar, Jerudong, on the 1st of April 2011. To put excitement in the funrun, the Brunei Runnergy, consists of Brunei runners, was invited to join. We were lucky to witness the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bolkiah. Princess Fadzillah joined the Brunei Runnergy about a couple of months ago.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Yesterday saw the finals of the Filipino Association of Belait District Basketball Tournament. Playing for the third place were the Blue Team and the Brown Team. Blue Team lost to give way to Brown team grabbing the 2nd Runner up trophy. The much awaited game was the championship title between the White Shark and the Black Cobra. Last night was the second time these two teams met. In the quarter final, White Shark defeated the Black Cobra. Last night's game was well won by the undefeated White Shark, having scored 61 to 46. The team received medals for each player and a championship trophy. Here are some shots taken during Saturday's game....

RED CANOPY is the canteen contract holder in BLNG. She will be here for two more years, since the contract is three years.

The employees are very slow in service, phone calls are seldom answered (if ever someone answers it, it will be like, the 5th or 6th call!). Once we ordered food for a morning gathering, they were not prepared; the superviosr somehow, had forgotten about it. So, our focal person had to have them cooked fried noodle, and made sandwiches on the spot. They had curry puffs and malay cakes served while waiting.

So, if anyone happens to read this, and knows or Datin Hjh Maimunah, do convey this report. I am sure she will be calling the staff immediately. Afterall, it's going to be their reputation.

Hopefully, the service will be better after this.

FUN RUN / WALK at LLRC

There will be a fun run/walk from LLRC/Lumut Beach/LLRC today, 25th February 2011 @ 4:30PM. It will be led by BLNG MD/CEO, Hj.Salleh Bostaman Hj.Zainal Abidin. Participants are to gather at the beach huts in front of LLRC. Running shoes and suitable attire is recommended.

The objectives for the fun run/walk are to maintain the health of the workforce through inculcating individuals to take charge of their own health. Furthermore, it will foster a better rapport amongst employees after-work and supporting "Work-Life balance" initiatives.
As previous year, BLNG will also contribute B$2.00 for each km / person and with additional of $2.00/person for a warm up session. The contribution will be donated to BLNG ‘s Staff Orphan Fund.

I am looking forward to this afternoon since I am a new employee in BLNG, and it will my first participation. Yeay!!

I had my first real job interview yesterday. I was shaky and nervous and had butterflies in my tummy; all the mixed feelings. I was afraid that I might not be able to answer their questions; not because I do not know the answer but I was always trembling when I speak infront of persons I do not know.

First, we were briefed on the terms and conditions on recruitment. Then we had to fill up a form. Oh yes, there were only two of us there for the interview. I was called last.
As I entered the room, three interviewers greeted me, two male and one female. Okay, that made me feel less nervous. Then I was seated, and the interview started.

The interviewers introduced themselves, then it was my turn to introduce myself. It went on question after question. And I was like so ready to answer those. I would say the whole interview went well for me, but I do not know about them. Anyway, i will just have to wait and see if I will be called.

Citygym, Cebu is organising a city run tomorrow, starting from and finishing at Waterfront Hotel, Lahug. The run consists of a 4K fun run, 6K and 12K. My husband and I will be joining the 12K run, open category. We hope to make it to the finish line in an hour 30 mins.

CEBU TRIP 1

My husband and I arrived in Cebu on Saturday, 20th of March, 2010. Stayed at Cebu Northwinds Hotel for 2 days.
Not so bad for a PHP1,288.00 standard room. The only thing that was very unethical was this morning, someone from housekeeping knocked on our door. Before I could open the door, the lady was already putting the key in the keyhole and started to open the door! I was so angry that I shouted at her from inside the room.

Anyway, yesterday we participated in the 8km Extreme Running from The Outpost to Cebu Zipline. It was a tough route, all the way uphill. At one point I was about to give up; couldn't even walk. But looking at other participants who were also struggling, I went on and finally, we made it in 1hr 20mins.

It was the 3rd of January 2010. We attended the wedding of Mohd Aminuddin & Fadlina at Taman Rasheedah, Jerudong. We arrived just about 10 minutes before the "berziarah & doa selamat" was held. Only stayed at Mohd Aminuddin residence; did not go to the bride's side.

I only managed to take a few shots. Look at the groom's car / jeep.

Last December, my family and I went for a holiday to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, onw eek in each place. And in both places, we stayed with a relative.

My true purpose to Singapore was to join the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2009. Yes, I participated in the women's 10km run. My first marathon, finished in 1hr 26mins and received a finisher's medal. Yeay!

Yesterday saw the final match between Adinin Group of Companies and SCO 1, in the Construction HSE Network Basketball / Netball Tournament. The championship went to SCO 1 with AGC in the 2nd place and SCO 2 in the 3rd place. As for basketball, SKS won the championship, with SCO in the 2nd place and AGC in the 3rd place.

Saya mula bersembahyang tarawih pada 18 Ramadhan. Malam pertama di masjid, saya perhatikan beberapa orang kanak-kanak dan orang dewasa bercerita-cerita di luar masjid.

Apabila azan Isya' dilaungkan, masih terdapat beberapa orang bercakap-cakap di dalam dan di luar masjid; kanak-kanak lelaki dan perempuan dengan kawan masing2 berbuat bising. Seharusnya apabila azan dilaungkan, kita sebagai orang Islam, beriman dan dewasa, sepatutnya hormat dan jawab panggilan azan tersebut, dan menjadi contoh kepada kanak-kanak yang datang ke masjid. Berulang-ulang kali disebarkan tentang pentingnya berdiam ketika azan dilaungkan. Dikatakan bahawa, "Sesiapa yang bercakap-cakap ketika azan dilaungkan, Allah akan kelukan lidahnya daripada mengucap "LAAILAAHA ILLAALLAAAH" ketika nyawa nya di cabut."

Yang saya ingin tekankan di sini ialah : Manakah ibubapa kanak-kanak yang membuat bising ketika orang lain sedang bersembahyang? Kenapa dibiarkan kanak-kanak itu bersendirian dengan kawan-kawan mereka? Pada mulanya, kenapalah dibawa kanak-kanak itu kalau tidak dapat dilarang?

Imam yang bertugas juga tidak mengambil berat tentang perkara tersebut. Sepatutnya, imam itu mesti tegas menegur ibubapa yang ada membawa anak-anak mereka ke masjid supaya jangan biarkan mereka berbuat bising atau berlari-lari di dalam dan di luar masjid. Salahkah jika imam itu tegas? Kadang-kadang terdapat ibubapa yang tidak dapat terima teguran, dan ini mejadikan mereka marah dan melawan.

KETAHUILAH : Masjid adalah tempat beribadat bukan tempat bermain!

Bags?? Yes, women cannot do without them. They match their bags with clothes and shoes they wear and some just sling the odd one out without bothering to match with their clothing. And sometimes, they actually look good!

I'm a bagaholic and can't see a nice one. If I happen to see one and like it, it will be playing in my mind until such time I know I can't have it.

Nowadays branded bags come in replicas. For those who cannot afford the genuine ones, will settle for the replica, typically Korean made AAA+. I have my share of those as well. Brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Coach, Prada, Chanel are very much available from Korea. You can see every Tom, Dick and Harry using those Korean made bags!

As for me, when I decide to buy the Korean made bags, I make sure the model is available from the genuine line. At least, those with genuine taste may not be able to tell immediately that the bag is not original..

Anyway, the bag in the picture is the latest edition to my collection. It's a Vivienne Westwood. I ordered this bag directly from Italy. It's genuine and it cost B$811.50 (USD541.00)

Yesterday Sekolah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pg Hj Abu Bakar held a "bertahlil & sungkai" ceremony and presented donations to orphan students and needy in the school. This was attended by the principal, teachers, PTA committee, students and their families. The ceremony began with a talk given by Ustaz Omardi, followed by the presentation of donations by a religious officer.

The "tahlil" ceremony was lead by one of the teachers from the school. The ceremony ended with a "sungkai", followed by mass maghrib prayer and finally, dinner!

Self-examination is important because if you’re aware of how your breasts normally look and feel, you’re more likely to notice a change if it develops.
In addition to seeing your doctor each year for a breast examination, you should check your breasts regularly. A good time to do this is after the last day of your menstrual cycle or if you do not have periods, the same date each month. Most women find that their breasts are easier to examine just after their period when any premenstrual pain and lumpiness have settled.
You may check your breasts standing up, for example in the shower, or lying down, for example before going to sleep. Your partner should also be alert and look for changes in your breasts.
You can check your breasts by:
Looking at the shape and appearance of your breasts and nipples in the mirror with your hands by your sides
Raising your arms above your head and looking for a change in the shape of the breasts
Feeling for lumps in the breasts either while lying down or standing
Feeling for lumps in the nipples area and in the armpits
You should look out for the following changes:
A lump or lumpiness or even a change in shape or appearance of your breast such a dimpling, redness and appearance of veins
An area that feels different to the rest of your breast or any pain in your breast
Any change in the shape or appearance of your nipple, such as your nipple being pulled in or development of a rash
A discharge from your nipple, particularly if it is bloody
If you find a change don't panic
Most changes in the breast are not related to breast cancer. However, if you do find a change in your breast or a lump, it is important to visit your GP immediately.
Remember, the sooner you see your GP after finding a change in your breast, the better
Your GP will conduct a clinical breast examination to determine whether you will need further testing.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

There will be a basketball tournament to be held in Kompleks Sukan Mumong, Kuala Belait, starting on the 11th of October 2009. This tournament is a yearly event organised by Construction HSE Network (CHSEN). There are about ten teams participating in the tournament, namely Adinin Group of Companies, Mashhor, PTAS, QAF, Velosi, SKS, SKS Woods, Sahid Sdn Bhd, Zainal H.M. Daud, SCO and IIW-SKS.

In addition to the basketball tournament, the organiser has included a Netball tournament as well.

Since day one of Ramadhan, my family and I didn't have any special food for "sungkai" (break fast). All we had was grass jelly, corn, red bean paste, rose syrup and milk, all mixed together in individual bowl. And until today, we are still having the same thing. On days when we have delicacies from the neighbours or my mother, we only eat them after 'Isya prayer. We are happy with these "little" sungkai.

Sesungguhnya Allah tidak suka kepada orang-orang yang membazir di bulan Ramadhan.

This afternoon, ATDC Sdn Bhd, launched it's youth training programme at Plaza Sutera Biru, Kuala Belait. The guest of honour was Hjh Rosliah Bte Hj Hasbollah, the Commissioner of Labour, Ministry of Home Affairs. This programme is supported by the Labour Department and HSBC.

This training is free and given to selected youth in Brunei. It is designed to provide skills to unemployed youth. It is a 3-week training conducted in ATDC and followed by a 3 month attachment in one of the contractors' companies in Kuala Belait.

Congratulations to Fratini's Restaurant on the opening of their new branch in Seria yesterday, 12th April 2009. Family members and a few close friends were invited to witness the function.

A doa selamat was read by Ustaz Hj Rahmat prior to the cutting of the ribbon. The guest of honour was the Belait District Officer, Tuan Hj Jamain and spouse, who officiated the opening.

Pizzas, pastas and calamaris were served during the opening, with free flow of drinks. Everyone went home with full tummies.

The ceremony ended with Mr Musa handing a mock cheque to the Belait District Officer for Tabung Amal Daerah Belait, amounting to BND1,500.00.

SERIA PRIHATIN CARNIVAL

Seria Prihatin Carnival will be held for three days starting on the 10th of April until the 12th of April 2009, at Padang Bandaran Seria (the old tamu space). The aim of this carnival is to raise fund for the Palestinian in Gaza. The carnival will feature activities and exhibitions during the three day. They include arm wrestling, motorcycle and car exhibitions, tug-of-war, teh tarik competition, karaoke, walkathon and many more. There are also tents for rent at BND60.00 for 3 days. And if you have your own beach umbrella, the rental is at BND30.00 for 3 days.

Congratulations on your engagement : Saturday, 4th April 2009 was the day Rizal and Fatimah got engaged. The ceremony took place at AS26, VIP Housing, Jalan Telanai, BSB. At about 8.30pm, we left for Fatimah's house in Bunut. The engagement ceremony was only for family members. It was a brief ceremony, ending with Pg Hjh Rosnah placing the ring on Fatimah's finger.

Hello readers,

Happy New Year 2009 and Hijrah 1430. Haven't been updating my blog lately.

The reason is because my family and I were away for about 2 weeks. We went to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Kota Kinabalu for the holidays, and came back only on the 30th Dec 2008. Then school reopens and had to make sure everything is in place.

Anyway, here I am again and hoping to update my blog every now and then.

AZIM's 6TH BIRTHDAY

It was my nephew's 6th birthday party yestersday. The theme was BEN 10. The main attraction was the water bouncer, of course. There were face painting and balloon twisting, popcorn and cotton candy stand. Instead of a big birthday cake, Azim's cake were some cute little cup cakes with BEN 10 and Liverpool theme. There were games like pinata and bowling (hit the water bottles using coconut). Food? Well, spaghetti, carbonara, satay, donuts, pao and pizzas. Everyone had a good time. The party ended at 6pm. Pictures attached.

Menopausal Symptoms

Does soy relieve hot flashes, night sweats and other menopausal symptoms? Could soy isoflavones be the reason that Japanese women have a lower rate of hot flashes? Current research does not indicate this and study results have been very inconsistent. Roughly 60 percent of trials showed only modest reductions in hot flashes, while the other 40 percent showed no improvements. The bottom line: The claims that soy helps with menopausal symptoms have been blown way out of proportion. The evidence just does not show much benefit.

Bone Health

It is still too early to conclude whether or not soy helps to build bones. There are currently a few long-term studies investigating the area of soy and bone health. Contrary to popular belief, Japanese women experience as much (if not more) osteoporosis as Caucasian women in the United States. They do suffer fewer bone fractures, but this may be due to genetics or the shape of their bones. The bottom line: Although it will be a few years before the long-term studies conclude, it does look like soy may benefit the bones. Although soy probably does NOT reverse bone loss, it may help prevent bone loss and increase bone density.

Brain Power

Does soy improve ones cognitive functioning? Very little research has been conducted in this area. But one small, preliminary study on older adults showed that soy isoflavones did improve cognitive functioning. The bottom line: More investigation is needed in this area.

Today, our family went out for breakfast at Sutera Biru. Had dim sum there. There were like eight adults (parents), five elder children (12 - 16 yrs) and six little children (3 - 11 yrs) and a very close friend who is a paediatrician. Everyone had a good time, of course, with all the noise, from the adults and children talking. This family breakfast is again, courtesy of my brother and his wife. Thank you very much, abang and kakak. Semoga Allah saja yang membalas..

After that, we all walked to the nearby shops with all the children. It was like an outing to them, each one with their own partner. We don't do this very often, but once we are together, we will make the most out of it. We'll be very noisy and people will look at us as if we are from elsewhere. Well, that's what we are, one big happy family..

THE SCIENCE BEHIND SOY - 2

Breast Cancer
For consumers, the connection between soy and breast cancer may be the most confusing. After over 15 years of research on this topic, we don’t have any clear-cut answers. In theory, the plant estrogens in soy foods act as anti-estrogens. This means they may block natural estrogen from reaching the cells’ estrogen receptors. Therefore, soy is probably beneficial when the breasts are developing during childhood, making them less vulnerable to cancer. Later in life, when pre-menopausal women experience high levels of natural estrogen, the estrogens in soy may compete with natural estrogen resulting in positive benefits.

Post-menopause women, however, have low levels of natural estrogen. Adding plant estrogens at this time may increase the risk of breast cancer. Soy isoflavones may enhance tumor growth in women who have (or have had) estrogen-dependent cancers (like some breast cancers). The bottom line: Studies have not reliably demonstrated an increased or decreased risk of breast cancer among women eating soy. The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) states that soy consumption early in life may help protect against breast cancer later in life. The American Cancer Society suggests that those at risk for breast cancer should not consume soy isoflavones.

Prostate Cancer
Japanese men have lower rates of prostate cancer than men in the United States, and some experts contribute that to the Japanese diet, which is high in soy foods. The results of a few animal studies showed promise in this area. However, two small studies on humans (men) yielded controversial results. Soy isoflavones appeared to lower and improve the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) score for some men. For others, PSA level increased, but at a slower rate. And for certain men, the isoflavones worsened the prostate cancer condition. The bottom line: There are not enough human studies to say whether the isoflavones in soy affect prostate cancer for better or for worse.
